Herbert Harold Read

Herbert Harold Read ( * December 17 1889 in Whitstable, † March 29, 1970 ) was a British geologist. He was professor of geology at Imperial College.

In 1960 he was awarded the Gustav- Steinmann Medal, in recognition of his contributions to the study of the basement and granites ( eulogy ).

He was a Fellow of the Royal Society (1939) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Geological Society of London, which he was President 1947/48. In 1963 he received the Royal Medal of the Royal Society for outstanding contributions to the understanding of metamorphism and origin of granite. He was also awarded the Bigsby Medal and the Wollaston Medal ( 1952) of the Geological Society of London and the Penrose Medal ( 1967) of the Geological Society of America.
