Herbert J. Krapp

Herbert J. Krapp (* 1887 in New York City, † 1973 in Florida ) was an American architect.

Life

Krapp worked as an architect in New York. He worked for the company Herts & Tallant to 1915. Particular, he is known for the establishment of a number of theater buildings in Manhattan. Among the buildings he designed include the Lyceum Theatre, the Shubert Theatre, Booth Theatre, the Majestic Theatre, Ambassador Theatre, the New Amsterdam Theatre and the Longacre Theatre. Between 1912 and 1916 he worked for working in theater management Shubert brothers. Krapp renovated as well as the Winter Garden Theatre and the Helen Hayes Theatre in the 1920s.

In addition to theater buildings he also designed hotels, like the Hotel Edison and the Lincoln Hotel (today's Milford Plaza Hotel) in Manhattan. When the stock market collapsed in 1929, the theater and musical boom was in New York at the end. Madder then worked for the Shubert brothers and helped with the renovation of the existing theater.

Krapp died in 1973 in Florida.
