Herbert Keppler

Herbert " Burt " Keppler (* April 21, 1925 in New York; † January 4, 2008 in Croton-on -Hudson, New York) was an American photojournalist, editor and camera developers.

Life

Keppler, son of the photographers and illustrators Victor Keppler, graduated from Harvard University and served at the end of World War II with the U.S. Navy. After working for various newspapers and trade magazines, he joined in 1950 the magazine Modern Photography newly founded on. Until 1987 he worked for the magazine, which was under his direction, one of the leading newspapers and magazines in the field of photography. He then joined as Vice President to Popular Photography.

In addition to his journalistic activities Keppler devoted to the development of photo cameras. Here, a significant role in the development of the Japanese photographic industry, he is credited. As a regular visitor to the country, he advised companies located there and many of his ideas helped the products to high quality and reputation.

1985 Keppler was added to the Photo Marketing Hall of Fame, six years later, he was honored by the Photographic Manufacturers and Distributors Association for his life's work. He was as one of the few foreigners had the honor to be recognized by the Tennō. He received the Order of the Sacred Treasure 4th degree in 2002.
