Herbert Ross

Herbert David Ross ( born May 13, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York; † 9 October 2001 in New York City ) was an American choreographer and film director.

Life

Ross began his career as a dancer and choreographer, what particularly drew him in his work as a director on the film adaptations of musicals. His first choreography for the film, he developed in the 1950s for films like Carmen Jones by Otto Preminger. In the 1960s, for Doctor Dolittle and Funny Girl with Barbra Streisand.

Herbert Ross was once nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe for best director respectively for the film The Turning Point, but mostly wrote by the fact film history, that he was the first film at eleven Oscar nominations no single won (2011 still record ).

Ross was in 1988 with Lee Radziwill, younger sister of Jackie Kennedy, married, was the actress herself. The couple separated shortly before his death. He died at the age of 74 from heart failure.
