Herbert Stothart

Herbert Stothart Pope ( born September 11, 1885 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; † February 1, 1949 in Los Angeles ) was an American composer.

Stothart began composing for Broadway in the 1920s. It emerged during this period numerous musicals and revues with his music. With the beginning of the sound era, he left New York City to Hollywood to write film music. For his most famous work The Wizard of Oz in 1940, he received an Oscar. Herbert P. Stothart worked exclusively for MGM in Hollywood. In addition to the background music, he also wrote numerous songs. His most famous song I Wanna Be Loved by You sang Marilyn Monroe in Billy Wilder film Some Like It Hot.
