Herbjørg Wassmo

Herbjørg Wassmo (December 6, 1942 Skogsøya, Vesterålen ) is a Norwegian writer.

Life and artistic creation

Great admiration cherishes Wassmo for the Norwegian poet Knut Hamsun, but also Russian writers, Virginia Woolf, Camilla Collett, Sigrid Undset, Amalie Skram, and the Bible are of great importance.

Wassmo bought a few years ago the old farm " Skogsheim " on the island Hamarøy, where Knut Hamsun lived 1911 to 1917 and to which it has intense childhood memories. In Skogsheim ( German " Waldheim " ) she brought her first child into the world. They lived for a time in other European cities such as Berlin and Barcelona to be inspired there and write on their books. Also, some of its protagonists as Dina or Ruth Nesset spent time living in Berlin.

She is married to Bjørn Hulleberg.

Her best-known book is Dinas bok ( " Dina's book" ) from the year 1989 This first part of the Dina trilogy was titled Dina -. Filmed My story 2002 by Ole Bornedal. In the leading roles Maria Bonnevie and Gérard Depardieu play.
