The municipality is situated on the Unstrut. Herb life lies at the Unstrut bike path that here to the east separates from the river and continues on to Gebesee.

Traffic
The Herb life station was on the railway line Ballstädt - Straußfurt. Passenger services ended in 1997; in 1999 was followed by the closure.
Culture and sights
Finds from the Bronze Age and Hallstatt period
- South of the town on the Erfurt height is the occurrence of a Bronze Age hoard. It is probably a cultic laid down treasure.

Traditional Feast of Pentecost
