Hércules CF

The Hércules Club de Fútbol S.A.D. is a Spanish football club from Alicante. The club was founded in 1922 and plays after relegation again in 2011 in the Segunda División.

History

The precursor of the current club was founded in 1914 under the name Hércules Foot -ball Club, the regional federation Federación de Fútbol de Levante however, occurred in only on 26 September 1922 which is why this is considered the founding date of the club.

In the 1934/35 season succeeded the hitherto largest success, winning the Segunda División Hércules and thus was promoted to the first division. In the season 1935/36, the last before the outbreak of the Civil War (1936-1939 ), one reached the sixth overall place. This placement could be 1939/40, repeated after resumption of the championship. By the year 1942, the Herculanos held in the highest division. In the following years, Hércules was to lift the team always played for a short time in La Liga, but could never establish.

The most successful era began in the 1970s under the presidency of José Rico Pérez. In the 1973/74 season promotion to the top flight, the new club's stadium, the Estadio José Rico Pérez, was opened and the following season 1974/75 could be finished in fifth place, to this day the best league placing in the club's history. Qualifying for the UEFA Cup, one missed this season only on goal difference against the same number of points Real Sociedad. The club for the first time was able to permanently establish themselves in the top division, until 1982, in La Liga after eight years, was the descent. In a further short period in the first division from 1984 to 1986 was followed by a deep fall into the third division, the Segunda División B. The club also ran into financial difficulties and was forced to sell the stadium to pay off debt in 1994. Although succeeded for the season 1996/97 the rise again until the first class game, but then again followed by a crash in the Segunda B. Under the new major shareholder Enrique Ortiz succeeded in the economic recovery and the slow revival of the club. In 2007 a ​​new training center, the Campo de Entrenamiento de Fontcalent, acquired and also the Jose Rico Perez Stadium went back into the club possession. The season 2009/10 Segunda División Hércules could finish in second place and so ascend after 14 years in the Primera División again. By returning to the highest Spanish league was also discussed again on a new building or a major renovation of the home stadium.
