Herennius Modestinus

Herennius Modestinus was a famous Roman jurist in the middle of the 3rd century.

Herennius Modestinus seems to come from one of the Greek-speaking provinces, perhaps from Dalmatia, and was a pupil of Ulpian. In Valentinian Zitiergesetz it is placed next to Papinian, Julius Paulus, Gaius and Ulpian. He is mentioned in a rescript of Gordian from the year 240 in connection with a responsum, he gave a party to which the rescript was addressed. Not less than 345 passages in the Digest are taken from his writings.
