Geography
Heretsried is located about 15 kilometers north- west of Augsburg in the wood angle of the Natural Park Augsburg Western Woods.
Districts
Heretsried comprises the main town and parish of Heretsried, the Kirchdorf Lauterbrunn and the hamlet Monburg.
History
Heretsried was first mentioned in writing in the 13th century; the church celebrated its 750th anniversary in 1992. She was long in the possession of the monastery Lumber and went in 1600 into worldly possessions. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in the kingdom of Bavaria created with the municipality edict of 1818, the church today.
Incorporations
On 1 May 1978, until then independent municipality Lauterbrunn and the district Monburg were incorporated the disbanded community Affaltern.
