Herleva

Herleva ( Arlette ) (* 1003 in Falaise, † 1050 in Grestain ) was the mother of the future King of England William I

Herleva was the daughter of a tanner named Fulbert Norman de Crey and his wife Doda of Falaise.

From a Friedel marriage with the Norman duke Robert I had two children, William and Adelaide. Herleva and her family passed through the connection with Robert prestige and wealth. Shortly after the birth of her second child, she was in 1031 with Robert's friend and vassal, Count Herluin of Conteville married. Him she gave birth to four daughters and two sons.

After Robert's death in 1035 in Nicaea during a pilgrimage whose common, as the illegitimate son of William II took over the throne and thus the regency of Normandy. Wilhelm finished in 1066, the Anglo-Saxon rule in England and became the first Norman King of England.
