Herman A. Blumenthal

Herman Allen Blumenthal (* May 21, 1916, † March 30, 1986 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who had twice won the Academy Award for Best Production Design and a second time for the Oscar in this category was nominated.

Life

Blumenthal began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1955 with the television series The 20th Century- Fox Hour and worked until 1981 in the production of some forty films and television series with.

At the Academy Awards in 1960 he was nominated Lyle R. Wheeler, Franz Bachelin, Walter M. Scott and Joseph Kish for the Academy Award for Best Production Design in the color film Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959 ), the director Henry Levin with James Mason, Pat Boone and Arlene Dahl staged based on the novel by Jules Verne.

In 1964 he won with John DeCuir, Jack Martin Smith, Hilyard M. Brown, Elven Webb, Maurice Pelling, Boris Juraga, Walter M. Scott, Paul S. Fox and Ray Moyer Academy Award for Best Production Design in a color film, namely for the epic film Cleopatra (1963 ) by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison in the lead roles.

His second Academy Award for Best Production Design, he won jointly with DeCuir, Smith, Scott, George James Hopkins and Raphael Bretton in 1970 for the musical film Hello, Dolly! (1969 ) Gene Kelly with Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau and Michael Crawford.
