Herman II, Lord of Lippe

Hermann II of Lippe (* 1175 in Lippe (now Lippstadt), † December 25, 1229 ) was ruler of the reign lip.

Life

Hermann II of Lippe ( in the sources: " de lip ") was the oldest son of the noble Lord Bernhard II of Lippe and the Heilwig of Are - Hostaden, daughter of Count Otto I of Are- Hostaden.

He was co-regent with his father and followed him in 1196 as regent of the house lip. Less warlike than his father and brother, he tried in his area often to act as a mediator. In the German throne war in 1198 Hermann was on Welf page and did not leave until 1214 to Emperor Frederick II. He probably belonged to other knights of the Great Society of Otto IV (reigned 1198-1218 ), which is why his coat of arms ( the setting for the Lipper Rose) also appears on the box Quedlinburg this emperor.

1217/18 was for the brother Hermann Otto II, Bishop of Utrecht, Stiftsverweser in Utrecht, promoted the cities and won the bailiwicks and Clarholz Herzebrock it. One particular opponent Hermanns was expanding the Archbishop of Cologne mountain Engelbert I of Cologne, although Hermann had previously been his close follower. 1227 Hermann took part in the Battle of Bornhöved against Denmark. Later, he supported his brother Gebhard II, Archbishop of Bremen, in a feud against the Stedinger farmers. As the leader of an archbishop's army, he was killed on December 25, 1229 at the Battle of Hasbergen.

Hermann was married to the Countess Oda von Tecklenburg, daughter of Count Simon I of Tecklenburg and the Countess Oda of Berg- Altena. From the marriage seven children were born:
