Herman IV, Margrave of Baden

Margrave Hermann IV of Baden (* 1135; in 1152 he is first mentioned with his father, † September 13, 1190 at Antioch on the Orontes ), was titular Margrave of Verona and Margrave of Baden since 1160.

Life

In addition, he held Counts and advocacies im Breisgau and in Ortenau. He is the son of Hermann III. , Margrave of Baden and Bertha. Was married to Hermann IV since about 1162 Bertha († February 24, 1169 ), daughter of Count Palatine of Tübingen.

Together with Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, he participated in the siege and destruction of Milan. In the years 1176-1178 he undertook with the emperor 's campaigns in Italy and had 1176 participants in the Battle of Legnano. 1183 he was a guarantor of peace in Constance, where the Lombard cities got their independence.

Hermann IV took part in the Emperor's side at the Third Crusade. He died in 1190 in the Holy Land near the city of Antioch probably due to the plague.
