Herman Joseph Alerding

Herman Joseph Alerding ( born April 13, 1845 in Westphalia, Germany, † December 6, 1924 ) was Roman Catholic bishop of Fort Wayne.

Life

Herman Joseph Alerding was the son of a Westphalian immigrant family in the United States and grew up in Newport, Kentucky, on. He received on 22 September in 1869 by the Bishop of Vincennes, Jacques- Maurice in the country d' Aussac De Saint Palais, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on August 30, 1900 Bishop of Fort Wayne. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Cincinnati, William Henry Elder on 30 November of the same year; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop in Indianapolis, Denis O'Donaghue, and the Bishop of Columbus, Henry Moeller.
