Herman Lewis

Herman Lewis (born 19 or 20th century ) is an American sound engineer who has been nominated three times for an Oscar. He is best known for his work on the films Planet of the Apes ( 1968), Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) and The Towering Inferno ( 1974) and the television series Perry Mason.

Life

Lewis first came into existence in 1949, where he worked on at Cecil B. DeMille's sound Bible film Samson and Delilah. Hedy Lamarr and Victor Mature played the lead roles. This is followed by employees joined in numerous films and television productions, the television series Perry Mason stands out, in which he worked on 188 episodes ( 1959-1966 and again 9 episodes, 1973).

In 1971, Lewis along with Murray Spivack an Oscar nomination in the category " Best Sound " for the Japanese-American war film co-production Tora! Tora! Tora! directed by Richard Fleischer and Kinji Fukasaku with Martin Balsam and Joseph Cotten in two of the leading roles. However, the Oscar went to Don J. Bassman and Douglas O. Williams for the historical film Patton - Rebell in uniform. For the disaster film The Poseidon Adventure Lewis was in 1973 with Theodore Soderberg again nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Sound ", but was opposite Robert Knudson and David Hildyard not prevail with the musical film Cabaret. 1975 Lewis was nominated for an Oscar for the third time, again together with Soderberg, again for a disaster film The Towering Inferno Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and William Holden.
