Herman Miller, Inc. is an American furniture manufacturer based in Zeeland, Michigan.

History

The company began in 1905 under the name Star Furniture Company with the production of bedroom furniture. In 1923, Herman Miller took over the majority of shares in the company and renamed it into Herman Miller Furniture Company. Dirk January (DJ) De Pree, son Miller and former president of Star Furniture, these items now took over at Herman Miller Inc. Four years later he founded the Herman Miller Clock Company, of which he also took over and later under the name of his brother was continued as Howard Miller Clock Company.
