Herman Ponsteen

Herman Ponsteen ( born March 27, 1953 in Hellendoorn ) is a former Dutch cyclist.

Herman Ponsteen was one of the best and most versatile Dutch racing cyclist in the 1970s. 13 times he was Dutch champion in the disciplines of individual pursuit, time trial, tandem race, points race and scratch. In the UCI Track World Championships 1973 in San Sebastián started Ponsteen in three disciplines and won two bronze medals, in the time trial and the team pursuit as well as silver in the pursuit of amateurs. In 1976 he started in the Olympic Games in Montreal in the pursuit and won the silver medal behind the German Gregor Brown.

In 1978, Herman Ponsteen professional. In 1979 he was in Amsterdam third in the track world championships and at the Track World Championships the following year in Besançon Second, each in pursuit. He also started at 18 six-day races, his best finish was the third place in Montreal in 1980, with Gustaaf Van Roosbroeck.
