Herman Rosse

Herman Rosse ( born January 1, 1887 as Hermann Rosse in The Hague, The Netherlands, † April 13, 1965 in Nyack, New York) was an American production designer of Dutch descent, who at the Oscar ceremony in November 1930 Academy Award for Best Production Design won.

Biography

Rosses father was German, his mother Dutch. In his native horses received an architectural education. In October 1919 he moved to the United States, with the aim to settle in Chicago.

Rosse worked for some time as a production designer and art director in the film industry in Hollywood in the early 1930s and received for the production design in The Jazz King (1930 ) by John Murray Anderson Oscar in this category.

Other films in which he worked as a Production Designer, were East Is West ( 1930) of Monta Bell, Strictly Dishonorable (1931 ) by John M. Stahl and The Emperor Jones (1933 ) by Dudley Murphy.
