Herman Shumlin
Herman Shumlin (December 6, 1898 in Atwood (Colorado), † June 4, 1979 in New York City ) was an American theater producer and director, who became known for his Broadway productions. He also served as director and film producer of two films. Herman Shumlin was a mentor and former employer of the later profiled Broadway theater producer David Merrick.
Shumlins career began in 1927 with Celebrity and ended in 1974 after 45 Broadway productions with a film adaptation of the play As You Like It ( How You Like It ). Among his most successful productions have included:
- The Little Foxes, 1939/40,
- People at the hotel, 1930
- Inherit the Wind, 1955-57 with Paul Muni
He led in two films directed by an adaptation of his Broadway production of Die Wacht am Rhein ( Watch On The Rhine ) in 1943 and hunting in the fog ( Confidential Agent ) by Graham Greene in 1945.
In 1964 he was awarded for the deputy with a Tony Award.
