Herman Van Springel

Herman Van Springel ( born August 14, 1943 in Ranst ) is a former Belgian cyclist. Van Springel won as an amateur in 1962 and his first race was from 1965 to 1981 pro. He achieved his greatest success in the Tour de France in 1968, where he finished in second place with a gap of just 38 seconds. He wore the yellow jersey for six days and lost it only at the last stage, an individual time trial, the Dutchman Jan Janssen. Van Springel won 1970-1981 seven times the longest one-day race of cycling classic Bordeaux - Paris.
