Hermann Anton Gelinek

Heřman Antonin Jelinek (also: Hermann Anton Gelinek; born August 8, 1709 Hořiněves; † December 5, 1779 in Milan ) was a Czech composer and violinist.

Life

Jelinek joined in 1728 the Premonstratensian Seelau one. He studied in Vienna and received his ordination there. After his return was Jelinek violinist, organist and choirmaster of the religious congregation Seelau. The church musical activities did not meet Jelinek, twice he fled from the monastery and performed publicly. Since 1760 he lived in Paris as a violin virtuoso and has appeared before Louis XV. on. He then visited Italy, where he used the stage name Cervetti. He composed church music, sonatas and violin concertos. A large part of the manuscripts of his sacred compositions located in Želiv monastery.

His brother Jan Jelinek (* 1710 in Hořiněves, † 1780 in Prague) was a Czech organist and composer. He worked at various churches of Prague as organist. From him a tape is received with loud music. His sacred works have been lost.
