Hermann Hoffmann

Heinrich Karl Hermann Hoffmann ( born April 22, 1819 in Roedelheim, † October 26, 1891 in Gießen ) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " H.Hoffm. ".

Life and work

Hoffmann studied in Giessen and Berlin Medicine, completed his habilitation in 1842 as a lecturer in Giessen and since 1853 was a professor of botany.

He dealt with preferably the biological conditions for fungi and their relations to fermentation, putrefaction and disease processes. He also conducted many years of studies on the influence of climate and soil conditions on the distribution of plants and engaged in experimental studies on the formation of varieties and formation of associated species. In later stages, he promoted especially by the phenology of detailed investigations.
