Hermann Loew

Friedrich Hermann Loew ( born July 19, 1807 in White Rock, † April 21, 1879 Halle ( Saale) ) was a German entomologist.

Life

Hermann Loew was a teacher of mathematics and natural history in Poznań and later worked as a professor and director of the school in Meseritz. He also became politically active and was one of 18 June 1848 to 20 May 1849, the Frankfurt National Assembly ( in his brother Friedrich Loew was represented ) and from 1874 to 1876 the Prussian House of. His scientific achievements include, in particular his work on flies ( Insecta: Diptera).

Loew has, among other numerous robber flies ( Asilidae ) first described. Most of his collection is now in the Humboldt Museum in Berlin.
