Hermann Martens

Hermann Martens ( * April 16, 1877, † 1916) was a German racing cyclist. In 1908, he won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit.

After Martens had until 1902 beginning with the racing, the launching of the Berlin Bicycle Club Germania driver won his first race in 1903. In 1904 he won in 17 races and finished 18 times second place; 1905 and 1906 he was German champion over 25 kilometers. Overall, he had won 49 victories before his Olympic start.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 he competed in all seven disciplines. In the 100 - mile race, he gave up in five other competitions, he retired in the first round. Only in the Team Pursuit, which with 1980 yards, about 1810 meters, was discharged in 1908, he won the first round with Max Götze, Rudolf Katzer and Karl Neumer on the French foursome. After the semi-final victory against the Dutch, the German foursome lost the final against the British.
