Hermann Olshausen

Hermann Olshausen ( born August 21, 1796 in old RST, Duchy of Holstein, † September 4, 1839 in Erlangen, Germany ) was a German professor of Protestant theology.

Life

As the son of Detlev Olshausen and older brother Justus Olshausen, Hermann Olshausen studied at the Christian -Albrechts- University of Kiel (1814 ) and the new Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of Berlin ( 1816). There he was influenced by Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher and August Neander. Since 1820 habilitated lecturer, he was ao 1821 Professor in Berlin. In 1827 he was appointed to the Chair of the Albertina, the rector of which he was in the winter semester 1828/29. In 1834 he became professor at the Friedrich -Alexander- University of Erlangen.

Olshausen Subject was the exegesis of the New Testament. His comment (completed and revised by Ebrard and Wiesinger August ) appeared in 1830 in Königsberg, and was in four volumes translated into English (Edinburgh, 1847-1849 ).
