Hermann Otto II of Limburg Stirum

Hermann Otto II of Limburg- Styrum (* April 1, 1646; † July 9, 1704 in Donauwörth ) was an imperial field marshal and by descent Count of Limburg- Styrum.

Life

Hermann Otto was the son of Count Adolf Ernst of Limburg- Styrum and Maria Isabella of Veblen and Meggen and grandson of Hermann Otto I of Limburg- Styrum. He served first in a Bayreuther dragoon regiment in 1678 and was promoted to Colonel while a dragoon regiment of the Imperial Army. In 1684 he became general field sergeant and distinguished himself several times from in the Turkish wars. In 1688 he was Lieutenant-General and as such was involved in 1691 as General of Cavalry at the Battle of Slankamen where the commander in chief Margrave Ludwig of Baden mentioned him praise. In 1696 he was finally appointed Field Marshal. In the years 1701-1704 he fought on the Rhine and in Southern Germany against the French (First Battle of Blenheim ).

Progeny

Hermann Otto II of Limburg- Styrum was married since 1678 Countess Charlotte Amalie of Veblen and Meggen Raesfeld ( 1662-1718 ). They had the following children:
