Hermann Rieder

Hermann Rieder ( May 3, 1928 in Altfraunhofen at Landshut; † 22 August 2009 Gaiberg in Heidelberg ) was a German javelin thrower, coaches and sports scientists.

Athletes and coaches

Hermann Rieder was an active member of the German national javelin thrower. In the years 1952-1960 he won four German vice-champion in this discipline. 1951 and 1955 he won the gold medal at the World Games of the students, the forerunner of the Universiade. His best jump was 76.68 m.

From 1966 to 1972 Hermann Rieder was national coach for the German javelin Leichtathelikverbandes. He served as coach, inter alia, the Olympic champion from 1972 Klaus Wolfer man Universiade champion from 1979 Helmut Schreiber and the European champion from 1986 Klaus Meier panel.

Scientist

After studying the subjects German, history and physical education in Munich Hermann Rieder worked as an assistant at the University of Würzburg. From 1968 to 1994 he headed the Institute of Physical Education, University of Heidelberg, which was renamed in 1973 in the Institute of Sport and Sport Science. In parallel, he was the founding director of the Federal Institute of Sport Science, he, he served as director from 1970 to 1973. Main focus of his work was the establishment of sports science as a scientific discipline and promotion of disabled sports. Hermann Rieder was General Secretary of the International Association of Sports Psychologists ( ISSP International Society of Sports Psychology).

Hermann Rieder combined in his person several facets of sports science and had the ability to link widely separated theoretical and practical knowledge with each other. In his list of publications can be found contributions from the sports psychology, kinesiology, training theory and from his self-developed interdisciplinary research field of sports therapy. As one of the generalists of the subject Trotsky was concerned with a wide range of sport science issues ranging from the search for talent in tennis to exercise programs for people with HIV. Hermann Rieder was convinced of the power of communication. This is reflected in the he organized national and international conferences.

Hermann Rieder was the beginning of his high school teachers work a promoter of sports scientists. This is demonstrated more than 40 supervised by him promotions and Habilitation. Generations of students have benefited from his ability to guide the scientific work and motivate. Herrmann Rieder is honored by the Institute for Sport and Sport Science in 1997 by the award of a prize named after him, which is awarded annually for the best student work qualification.

After his retirement, Hermann Rieder dedicated - on the basis of his historical studies and his expertise as a competitive sport javelin throwers - the " cultural history of the spear throw ." In 2001 he initiated the exhibition Javelin - from the Stone Age hunters to the Olympic champion in Mannheim and has lectured on this topic.
