Biography

Hermann Roesler was the son of the district court lawyer Christoph Carl Friedrich Maximilian Roesler (1798-1841) and his wife Sophie Wilhelmine born Nagelsbach, sister of the philologist Karl Friedrich nails Bach ( 1806-1859 ).

He attended the Nuremberg Melanchthon -Gymnasium and studied from 1852 to 1856 in Erlangen and Munich, law and political sciences. 1856 Roesler put the first legal state examination in 1858, the second and received his doctorate in 1860 in Erlangen, Dr. jur. utr. , the same year in Tübingen Dr. the state economy. Already in the following year he completed his habilitation in Erlangen, whereupon he took up a full professorship in Rostock.

1878 Hermann Roesler joined the Lutheran Confessions to Catholicism, which is why he was not allowed to stay longer in the Mecklenburg government service. So he went in the same year as a counselor of the Japanese Foreign Ministry and then the Japanese Cabinet to Tokyo, where he remained until 1893. His relationship to the local German Embassy and the German Community is described as frosty. Roesler was instrumental in the drafting of the Japanese Commercial Code and the Meiji Constitution.

The grave stone bears the following multi-line Latin inscription:
