Hermann Wendland

Hermann Wendland (* 1825 Mr. Hausen, † 1903 in Hannover ) was a German botanist and gardener Oberhof the Royal Gardens and author. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " H. Wendl. ".

Life

Wendland, as the son of the royal courtyard garden inspector Heinrich Ludolph Wendland altan seen a botanist and gardener family. He was a recognized expert on palm family and bred one of the world's largest palm collections in then the largest in Europe Palm House in the Royal Gardens. More palm trees he collected on his research trip 1856/57 through Central America. He described and named over 130 species. The palm genus Wendl Andi Ella is named after him, also many species have been named from the palm family after him. Also a number of other known today and widespread species has been made known by him, these include the Flamingo Flower and the African violet.
