Hermann Winkelmann

Hans Emil Friedrich Hermann Winkelmann ( born March 8, 1847 in Braunschweig, † January 18, 1912 in Wall at Vienna ) was a German opera singer.

Life and work

Hermann Winkelmann, the son of the founder of the Brunswick piano factory Zeitter & Winkelmann, Christian Ludewig Theodor Winkelmann, received after completing his training in 1875, his first engagements at various German theaters. He was committed in 1882 by Richard Wagner Parsifal for the first performances in Bayreuth and sang from then on regularly at the Bayreuth Festival, for example, the Tannhäuser. From 1883 to 1906 he worked at the Vienna State Opera as heroic tenor. In the years 1880-1892 Winkelmann occurred frequently also at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. From him several recordings are obtained.

His son Hans Winckelmann was also an opera singer.
