Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa, Hermen Anglada i Camarasa in Catalan, also known as Anglada - Camarasa, ( born September 11, 1871 in Barcelona, † July 17, 1959 in Pollença ) was a Catalan- Spanish painter of the Post-Impressionism and Art Nouveau.

Life

Anglada Camarasa studied painting at the Escola de Belles Arts de Barcelona (, School of Fine Arts in Barcelona ') before moving in 1894 to Paris, where he first lived in very humble circumstances before his art won by the turn of the century recognition. Opened in 1901, Anglada Camarasa own studio in Paris, took part in a major art exhibition in Dresden, won several international awards and gained great success in Italy. He was friends with the Russian avant-garde artists such as Gorky, Meyerhold and Kandinsky. However, the decorative and ornamental style of his portraits of women from the period before 1914, however, has clear parallels to the works of Gustav Klimt.

1914-1936 lived Anglada Camarasa in the Balearic Islands. 1936 to the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, an avowed Republican and Freemasons had to go into exile in southern France, in 1948 however, he returned to the Balearic Islands, where he died in 1959.

In 1967 his house was rededicated in a private museum in 1991 his estate was acquired by the Cultural Foundation of the Catalan bank La Caixa and is currently on permanent display in Palma de Mallorca in the former Gran Hotel.
