From 1478 until 1849 held the Barons of Löffelholz the herald Bacher Castle, a former forester's house. With the Imperial Diet of 1803 the city became part of Bavaria. In 1923 it came to the re- establishment of the 1405-1610 pre-existing parish Heroldsbach. The community Heroldsbach was increased on 1 April 1971 by a voluntary association of municipalities Heroldsbach and Thurn. Ösdorf was added on 1 May 1971.
