Herpetology

Herpetology (from greek ἑρπετόν Herpeton = crawling animal ) is a branch of zoology. It is the doctrine of the animal and customer classes of amphibians ( Anura ) and reptiles ( reptiles ).

The Herpetology is the study of their bodily structure ( anatomy and morphology ), their life processes and behavior ( physiology and ethology), their development and mode of inheritance ( Embryology and Genetics ), their evolutionary history, phylogenetic relationships and classification ( palaeontology, phylogeny and taxonomy) and its dissemination, propagation history and environment relationships ( faunistics, zoogeography and ecology).

A person who is concerned with the scientific herpetofauna, is a herpetologist.
