Herrnhaag

The Lord Hague is a settlement between the Büdinger districts Lorbach, Diebach and Vonhausen in the Wetterau / Hessen / Germany.

History

The Lord Hague was founded in 1738 by the Imperial Count von Zinzendorf, who was here with his Moravian Church, a Lutheran- Pietist faith community, refuge. After the banishment from Saxony in 1736 the religious refugees found shelter on the first Ronneburg. As the place after two years was almost there, the brothers went at the invitation of Count Ernst Casimir Ysenburg and Büdingen on the Herrnhaag located within sight.

The design of buildings and settlement followed the plan, to realize "life" a living and service community in which class differences were largely eliminated. The people lived and worked according to their life situation, eg unmarried or widowed, together in so-called choir worldwide. However, there were also family houses.

When Count Gustav Friedrich von Ysenburg - Budingen, the son and successor of Count Ernst Casimir of the faith brothers demanded an allegiance to bind the economically successful and missionary community in the county Büdingen, all members of the Brethren refused. The Count thereupon decreed in emigration edict of 12 February 1750, the resolution and set a deadline of three years. The then 18 houses and around 1,000 people comprehensive community was therefore dissolved already in 1753 again.

The Lord Hague was training and starting point for further Protestant missions of the Moravian Church in various parts of Africa, Greenland and North America. After the politically enforced task of Mr Hague, the inhabitants scattered throughout the world and founded, among others, missions in North, Central and South America, in Europe and in North India.
