Hersberg

Hersberg (Basel German: Herschbrg ) is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Hersberg between Arisdorf and Liestal. Other neighboring municipalities are Lausen, Nusshof and Olsberg.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Hersberg existed since 1945. It puts a red stepped gable is on a white ground, standing on a green three mountain. The stepped gable symbolizes the yard, from which the village has developed. Above him is a cross- strip, which includes a red and white checkerboard pattern.

History

1226 Hersberg was first mentioned. Because of the name is thought an Alemannic origin. The combination of personal names (such as Heri or Hari ) and " mountain " was very common among the Alemanni. 1461 the village came under the rule of the city of Basel. During the Thirty Years' War Hersberg was sacked by Spanish soldiers. Also from the plague, it was not spared.
