Herschel (lunar crater)

Herschel is a lunar crater north of with a diameter of 153 km significantly larger crater Ptolemaeus. In the northern area of the Gylden Furthermore, Spörer and Flammarion lie. The latter adjoins the sine Medii.

Although the Western Wall has a straight portion, the rim of Herschel is largely circular. He has a little eroded ridge between the crater rim and the central mountain is the Wall terraced.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British astronomer William Herschel.
