Herserange

Herserange ( Luxembourgish: Hiirkereng ) is a commune with 4437 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region; it belongs to the administrative district in the canton of Briey and Herserange whose capital it is.

Geography

Herserange is located east of Longwy. Neighboring municipalities are Longlaville in the north, Saulnes in the east, Hussigny- Godbrange in the southeast and Haucourt- Moulaine and Mexy in the south.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1273 as Hersel Ange ( 1475: Hertzerangen, 1611: Hersingen ). In 1553 a blacksmith shop opens in the community. In 1912, six blast furnaces were built, which were shut down in 1988.

Gérard Didelot 's mayor since March 2001, in 2014 elections take place.
