Hesse (Moselle)

Hesse ( German Hessen) is a commune of 600 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Sarrebourg and Canton Sarrebourg.

Geography

The community Hesse is located on the Marne-Rhine Canal, about four kilometers south of Sarrebourg at an altitude 252-325 m above sea level. The municipality covers 12.85 km ².

History

In Hesse there was a Benedictine monastery in the Middle Ages ( hillensis monasterium ). The village was German until 1661, then came to France, in 1871 and again in 1919 German French again. In the period 1939-1945 it was under the German administration again and then again the French. It is surrounded by forests.
