Hessenstein Castle

The Hessenstein Castle is a late medieval castle and castle in today's youth Ederbringhausen, a district of Vöhl in Waldeck- Frankenberg in Hesse, Germany.

Geographical location

The hilltop castle is located in a secluded forest setting, about 1.7 km south-east of Ederbringhausen on an approximately 327 -meter-high, mountainous southern spur of Kesebergs ( 431.2 m ), on the northern foothills of the ruins Keseburg is. History

The castle was built in 1342-1348 by Henry II, Landgrave of Hesse on the ruins of the ancient " Silburg " as a substitute for his father in 1277 destroyed Keseburg to have a permanent headquarters for his local governors. Jugendburg with Bildungsstätte

Current usage

With 134 beds and five days rooms in rustic castle atmosphere youth Hessenstein Castle stands today school classes, students, children and youth groups as well as families and singles as a youth hostel and conference center in the National Park Region cellar -Edersee available. It has the QMJ certificate of the Federal Forum for Children and Youth Travel Association and is recognized by the Ministry of Social Affairs as the carrier of youth welfare in accordance with § 75 SGB VIII. The Hessenstein is also the official partner of the National Park basement Edersee and was honored as " bat friendly house" by NABU Hesse.

The Youth Education Center offers a variety of school trips, daily specials and holiday camps on to the topics of nature, crafts and medieval times. In the conceptual focus is on education for sustainable development with the key issues Biodiversity and lifestyle. How can children and young people as " natural explorers " go on a research trip on Biological Diversity or the " evening experience Fledermaus" get to know the life of the goblins of the night. In cooperation with the National Park basement Edersee and nature conservation youth NAJU Hesse, the German of the Environment Foundation and the Foundation Hessischer conservation funded wilderness educational project "Forest Scout - expedition into the wilderness " is performed. Other educational cooperations exist with the nature park basement Edersee and the Geopark border worlds.
