Heterodont

Heterodontie ( Anisodontie ) (Greek ἕτερος "different", "different" and ὀδούς, gene. Ὀδόντος "tooth" ) is the name given to the presence of variously trained dental groups in one bite. This is typical of mammals, they usually have a differentiated into incisors, canines, premolars and molars teeth. The amniotes line of Synapsida, composed of the mammals, characterized by increasingly shaping the Heterodontie. Some extinct archosaurs, such as Notosuchia or Heterodontosauriden, also have heterodonte dentures.

In contrast to Heterodontie is the Homodontie which occurs in many reptiles, but also (secondary) in toothed whales, since they do not process the food in the oral cavity, but swallow without chewing.
