Heterokaryon

A heterokaryon is a cell with different, non-fused nuclei that are located in a common cell membrane. A dikaryon a pair of different nuclei in a heterokaryon. Both come before in the dikaryotic phase of mushrooms, for example.

It is important that the gene expression takes place in the two cores. This is used especially for the complementation.
