Hexafluoropropene ( C3F6 ) is the full form of the fluorinated propene. The molecule has a double bond between the carbon atoms.
Production and representation
Hexafluoropropene can be by thermal treatment of tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotetrafluoroethane and octafluorocyclobutane, and joint pyrolysis of chlorodifluoromethane and 2 -chloro-1 ,1,1,2 - obtained tetrafluoroethane. It occurs even at extreme thermal load of Teflon.
Properties
The colorless gas is almost odorless. Hexafluoropropene irritates the respiratory tract and is harmful if inhaled. It has a critical temperature of 124.6 ° C, a critical pressure of 54.95 bar and a triple point temperature of -156.5 ° C (melting temperature).
Use
Hexafluoropropene is used as the process gas in the plasma technology to deposit Teflon -like layers on surfaces. It acts as a comonomer for the industrial preparation of polymers based on tetrafluoroethylene ( EFEP eg = ethylene HFP TFE = tetrafluoroethylene - ethylene - hexafluoropropene ).
