Hexahedrite

Hexaedrite are a class of a nickel -iron meteorites, which have a fine parallel line marking in grinding and etching. These lines are called Neumann lines. Hexaedrite consist almost exclusively of the low-nickel iron alloy kamacite with 5-6% nickel show in contrast to the octaedrite no Widmanstatten structure.

The structural subdivision of nickel -iron meteorites in Hexaedrite, Oktaedrite and Ataxites based on their texture during grinding and etching and the dominant mineral constituents.

Etymology

The name refers to the same cube hexahedron, because these meteorites can be split along the faces of a cube.
