Hexamethylene diisocyanate ( or, more precisely, hexamethylene -1 ,6 -diisocyanate ) is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of aliphatic isocyanates. It is a colorless to yellowish liquid with a pungent odor.
Production and representation
Hexamethylene diisocyanate can be obtained by the reaction of hexamethylene diamine with phosgene, followed by purification.
Properties
Physical Properties
The vapors of hexamethylene diisocyanate are 5.81 times heavier than air.
Use
Hexamethylene diisocyanate is an essential raw material for polyurethane coatings. Almost the entire amount of consumption in the FRG to paint raw materials for the automotive and furniture industries, such as HDI biuret and HDI isocyanurate, further processed.
Safety
In case of strong heating (flash point 130 ° C ) of hexamethylene diisocyanate vapors may form an explosive mixture with air.
