Hexazinone is an active ingredient for plant protection and a chemical compound from the group of triazines and diketones.
Production and representation
Hexazinone can be obtained by reaction of cyanamide with methyl chloroformate, followed by methylation and reaction with dimethylamine and cyclohexyl.
Properties
Hexazinone is a colorless, odorless solid that is soluble in water.
Use
Hexazinone is used as a herbicide. It has been marketed since 1974 by DuPont under the trade name Velpar and is mainly used for alfalfa, sugar cane and pineapple. It is a non-selective foliar and residual herbicide with activity against monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. In Germany it was included until 1991 in three authorized plant protection products, their application to the effect of unrestricted indication Bid on 1 July 2001 was still permissible. Since 2002, hexazinone is not in the list of substances included in Annex I to Directive 91/414/EEC active ingredients, so is the use of plant protection products in the EU is not permitted. Therefore, in Germany and Austria no plant protection products containing this active substance is approved in Switzerland also not.
