History

The selection of songs for the album Hey Jew was not by the label, Capitol Records, but went back to an initiative by Allen Klein. Klein had negotiated in 1969 as the new manager of the Beatles a lucrative record deal for the group. Now he saw the opportunity to benefit financially from this new contract in another album release. The actual task of compilation of songs for an album, leaving his small staff Allan Steckler. Steckler chose songs that had not been published to date on an article published in the USA album by Capitol Records. His selection included here more material from the later years of the Beatles. The absence of the songs on the Capitol albums was firstly due to the fact that the Beatles mostly subsequently auskoppelten no tracks from albums released as a single, on the other hand - in the case of I Should Have Known Better and Can not Buy Me Love - is that the rights of these songs were initially at United Artists. Steckler verzichtetete on the songs of A Hard Day 's Night, which was released in 1964 by Capitol Records as a single and by United Artists on the soundtrack album, I'm Down, the B- side of the single Help!, And The Inner Light, the B- side of the single Lady Madonna. Outside front also remained From Me to You, Misery and There's a Place, all of which were first published in the U.S. on the label Vee -Jay Records, and She loves you ( German version of She Loves You) and the single version of Get Back.

Increasingly dissatisfied with the work of Capitol Records in the marketing of products of the Beatles, Apple Records took a more active role in the promotion of the upcoming album. Steckler also waived forward to instruct the Capitol Studios with the mastering of the tapes, and instead chose the Bell Sound Studios in New York, where Sam Feldman created the master tape.

It was originally planned to release the album under the title The Beatles Again on the market. Shortly before the release we changed the title to Hey Jew to benefit in the hope of the great success of the single of the same name. The name change was made so short that had been provided with a label already a number of records and audio cassettes, which bore the old name. Records under the old name came not in the trade, however, probably corresponding audio cassettes.

The photos can be seen on the front or back of the album cover, emerged in the last common photographs of the Beatles on 22 August 1969, the then newly acquired by John Lennon estate tits Hurst Park. The photographer was Ethan Russell.

As a CD album to 2014 was not available; all songs of the album can be found on the albums A Hard Day 's Night and Past Masters. A CD release in January 2014. The album is part of the collection box The U.S. album, but also available separately ..
