Hibberdene

Province

Hibberdene is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu -Natal. It is located in Hibiscus Coast Local Municipality in the district of Ugu. The city is located at sea level. 2011, it had 4,037 inhabitants. It was named after the Postmaster General of Natal C. Maxwell - Hibberd, who bought in 1900 after his retirement here a farm. The city lies on the River Umzimai.

Geography

Hibberdene is located directly on the coast between Scottburgh and Port Shepstone. It is located 97 km south of Durban.

Hibberdene is one of the most popular holiday resorts in South Africa, because of the warm Indian Ocean also offers diving and snorkeling next to the swimming. Various reefs harbor rare species such as the long- snouted hawkfish, special soft corals and sponges. The Black Sea Fan is endemic in Hibberdene.
