Hokkaido Hidaka Mountains recorded in 2003 by the International Space Station

The Hidaka Mountains (Japanese日 高 山脉, Hidaka- sanmyaku ) is a mountain range in southwestern Hokkaido in Japan. It extends 150 km from Karikachi Pass in Central Hokkaido southward until it passes the Cape Erimo into the sea. The mountain range forms the boundary between sub- prefectures Hidaka and Tokachi.

It is a fold mountain with 1500 up to 2000 m altitude. About 20 Kare located in this mountain range. The highest peak is the Poroshiri with 2053 m.

The mountain range separates the sub-prefectures Hidaka and Tokachi. Over most of the mountain, the Hidaka- Sanmyaku - Erimo- Quasi-National Park covers (日 高 山脉 襟 裳 国 定 公园, Hidaka- sanmyaku Erimo kokudeikōen ). Because the mountain is so far north, the alpine climate already begins at a low altitude. The mountain Apoi is known for its endemic alpine species under botanists.

The Hidaka Mountains is one of the last refuges of the Hokkaido bear and Sikahirsches in Japan.
