Hieronymus Froben

Hieronymus Frobenius (* August 6, 1501 in Basel, † March 13, 1563 ibid, also Hieronymus Froben, Jerome Frobenius ) was a Swiss printer and publisher.

Life

Shortly before his birth, Basel joined the Swiss Confederation. Therefore, the Basel Chronicle reports (p. 136), he had been " the first Eidgenoss so born at Basel " and has been " worn Trommen and Pipes for Tauff " with. He entered early into the business of his father Johann Froben - already in 1520 leaving two works under his name in the press. Family

He was a son of Johann Froben book printer, the founder of the Swiss publisher and official's family Frobenius. He married his first wife ( 1525) with Anna Lachner and in the second ( 1544) with Anna Brand ( 1520-1591 ), sister of the famous law professor and ambassador Bernhardus Brandus in Basel and daughter of the mayor Joder Fire ( 1488-1558 ). His sons Jerome (1532-1571), Aurelius Ambrosius and Frobenius went into his Offizin and became his successor. His daughter Anna (1541-1576) married in 1559 Hans Ludwig Meyer zum Arrow ( 1539-1607 ), member of the Basel "three tens" Council, a son of the Junkers Adelberg Meyer zum Arrow ( 1474-1548 ), mayor of Basel.
